Susan Burgert's incandescent soul brightened our lives as an example of just what a life looks like that has beautifully and gracefully balanced the resume virtues with the eulogy virtues.
While Susan 'went on ahead of us' on December 5, 2017 after her 4 1/2 year battle against endometrial cancer, she left an enviable blueprint for us to learn how to make our own lives truly count!
Early into her treatment, Susan made a comment regarding her legacy. She felt she had not contributed much in her life and feared that she would not leave much of a legacy. Boy, was she wrong!
Ever so humble, you'd find out about her accomplishments through talking with others. Valedictorian, elite swimmer, physician, pianist, athlete, scholar. However, these resume virtues were not important to her. She had a radiant smile and a generous kind soul. She loved classical music, the great outdoors, anything natural, a good meal and the sweet company of friends.
So, Susan began promoting awareness and raising funds for gynecologic cancer research and survivorship programs.
In 2016, she founded this event: The Below the Belt Stride and Thrive 5k and 1 Mile Run/Walk.
Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she has gracefully touched and will continue to touch through The. Susan L. Burgert, M.D. Gynecologic Oncology Survivorship Program. How's that for a legacy?
