Place

1 Main Street

Description

This year’s Norwalk Jaycees Strawberry Festival “Strawberry Scamper”  5k Fun Run / Walk has gone VIRTUAL... Unfortunately due to COVID, we are not hosting an in-person race this year... but that’s no excuse to sit around on your strawberry! So lace up those sneakers, grab a bottle of water, and get ready to have a berry good time.

This year's shirt is an off-white cotton blend shirt that will generally fit "true to size" featuring our buddy the Strawberry jogging with their mask on. This is sure to be a fun addition to your collection of 5k shirts for years to come... when COVID is nothing but a distant memory!! Shirts must be picked up in-person. Right now we are planning on having shirts available for pick-up on the day of the festival (May 29th) at the info booth. We may have other places for pick-up in the week leading up to the race for those that want to do their race in their shirts, however more details to come on that.

Due to deadline to get the order in, the only way to guarantee you will receive a shirt is to register by end of day May 10th. Sorry - unfortunately this is the latest we can place our order with the vendor printing the shirts to guarantee we receive them in time.

"Sounds great, but what the HECK is a virtual 5k???" - Good question! A virtual 5k is a 5k that you run / walk where ever you like (the Reservoir, on the treadmill, around the track, down the bike path, over the hills, and through the woods... pretty much anywhere really) and then you submit your results virtually!

Here are some free apps / alternatives that may be of use for tracking your mileage / time during your race:

  • Nike Run Club
  • MyFitnessPal
  • Map My Run (gives you the ability to create a 3.1 route via google maps so you know you're running the correct distance ahead of time)
  • If you already know a good 3.1 route, all you need is your trusty wristwatch

And if you don't really want to take it that serious and just want to go for a leisurely stroll, that's fine too! The main idea is to get out there and get moving! And the best part is since it's a virtual race, you can find a time to run that best suits your busy schedule.

The submission period for individuals who want to submit their race times will be open from Monday May 24th one week to Monday May 31st. This means you can run anytime during that 8 day period to run / submit your time... and yes, since this isn't a formal in-person event, there's nothing to prevent you from "fudging" your times... but where's the fun in that?!?!
