Description

The MEMIC Peak 2 Peak Challenge is a unique, timed adventure race across Sunday River’s eight mountain peaks. Competitors are tasked with reaching the summits of each peak in the shortest time possible. The catch? There is no set course. You must decide the shortest, most effective routes to each summit. With over 2,000 acres and 2,000 vertical feet of rugged, mountainous terrain this is a challenge in and of itself. Choose your route wisely or you could be in for a very long day. To prove you have in fact reached each peak, you will need to retrieve an item from the summit and return with it to the starting area to complete the challenge.

You can compete individually, in teams of 2 or 4. Teams will have the option of splitting peak assignments to members of their team, while individuals will have to conquer all 8 peaks on their own. Teams must also start and finish the race together.  Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in the individual, team of 2 and team of 4 categories.

There will also be a dedicated Kids & Family Challenge for children ages 4-12 across the South Ridge area. This scaled down Geocaching based adventure will be loads of fun for kids and their parents! Registration for the Kids & Family Challenge will be on-site the day of the event.

Competitors and spectators will enjoy a truly festive atmosphere throughout the day with live music, great food and activities in Sunday River’s Mountain Adventure Park.

Cost: $49 per person now until July 31, 2016

Cost: $59 per person starting August 1, 2016

$5 from every registration will go to The STRIVE Program of PSL Services. STRIVE is designed to address the many issues faced by young tweens, teens, and adults (ages 11-24) with developmental disabilities. Areas that we focus on include: improving fundamental academic skills, developing leadership potential, improving economic opportunities through continuing education, enhancing or upgrading work skills, integrating literary and social skills into occupational/vocational opportunities, fostering career opportunities through education and training, and promoting peer support for parents and siblings of this young population. https://www.pslstrive.org/

The MEMIC Peak2Peak Challenge joins Sunday River’s summer and fall lineup of adventure races, including the Tough Mountain Challenge and the North American Wife Carrying Championships. The race is developed and organized by the Maine Sports Commission, with MEMIC as the title sponsor, and additional support from the University of Southern Maine.

About the Maine Sports Commission—A non-profit business organization, the Maine Sports Commission aims to promote Maine as a four-season destination for sports events, and to increase the economic impact of the state by attracting new events and expanding existing sports-related events.
